slackware-3.6 installs kernel 2.0.35
When I telnet to my linux box, it indicates that it is kernel 2.2.6.
Perhaps if you open a console (alt-F2), your system will indicate its
kernel version.
"dmesg | grep version" might show you your kernel version.
Perhaps IP-Masquerade will do the rest of what you want.
