Dear List, I have Red Hat 6.0 running with 6 scsi cdrom drives hooked up to an adaptec 1542CF (floppy disabled). The Scsi card is at irq 9, i/o 330, dma 7 and scsi id 7. I can run everything from /sbin/insmod aha1542 after booting, but any attempts to rebuild the kernel to innately support the scsi card yeild a "scsi : 0 hosts" error as the system boots. Consequently, I must run insmod to get the scsi card (and thereby all the devices hooked to it) going "by hand" every time. I would like to recompile the kernel to find the card, then mount all the cdroms from fstab automatically at boot. I fail to see why autoprobe can find and configure the card when using insmod (after the system has fully booted), but cannot find it when I recompile the kernel with innate support for the adaptec 1542 and it autoprobes during the boot process. I have recompiled the kernel successfully before, providing support for just the 6x86 cpu, removing ham radio support, etc., but I'm stuck on this one. any ideas? Sincerely, James Bottino
