My experience is that cable modem Internet providers vary somewhat in
their support for Linux ... even from neighborhood to neighborhood in the
same provider.

I have RoadRunner (via MediaOne) running fine with the MediaOne provided
Cablecity modem. It was just a matter of getting the machine to use DHCP
on the network interface.

I had some problems with the standard ISC dhcp client, but when I upgraded
to RH6 and started using RedHat's pump, all the problems went away.
