I use dump/restore. I take a level 0 dump every 4 - 6 weeks, and a level
1 the other weeks. To restore takes a max of 2 tapes, the level 0 then
the level 1 over it. Restore has a nice interactive facility to select
what files or directories to restore. And, as another poster said _test_
your backup/restore strategy periodically. Take a tape & restore a
directory to /tmp or somewhere else with enough room - be sure you know
how to do the restore, _write_ down the exact commands & responses - it
will save you a lot of time & frustration if you ever really need to
restore. Also don't think that a disk failure is the only thing you're
protecting against - the most likely thing is restoring a single file
that you've just discovered you shouldn't have deleted.
