I added RAM several months ago and have had no troubles with it..

actually I am beginning to suspect quotas were the problem, I was
tinkering with quotas to keep ordinary users from filling up /var and
the second wave of corruption occured right after i had reactivated
them and a disk intensive cron job ran. its odd that the corruption
occurs on the root filesystem which never had quotas however.

from reading the kernel list archives it seems that quota is
suspected as being involved with fs corruption.

is anyone else using quotas under kernel 2.2.13?

I have since dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda and reinstalled this time
NOT enabling quotas and have not had corruption this time, I have
compiled a few things and run some disk intensive operations (both
times the corruption occured either during disk intensive crons or
compilation) and so far so good...

thanks.

Ethan
