Seriously though, I'm surpised about this.  Since about version 2.0.35
or .36, the kernel has been able to correctly detect the amount of
physical memory on the motherboard without having to specify it on the
lilo command line (as others have mentioned).  However, if your kernel
won't do this for your motherboard/bios, then using the append line as
a kernel parameter with lilo is the way to do it.
