What did the error messages on the Left-Alt-F3 and -F4 screens say?
There is a fair number of well-known problems in the installer shipped
with the original rh6.1 distribution disk. Many of these were
addressed with the installer update disk image that has since been
released. (Many, but not all).
Go to here and do a search for information that may enlighten you as
to what to do:
