I've had problems with some files downloaded from an ftp site.  Unzipping the comes up with the following ...

gunzip icmake-6_22.tgz
 incomplete distance tree

gunzip: icmake-6_22.tgz: invalid compressed data--format violated

... and tar gives a simillar message:

tar -xzvf icmake-6_22.tgz
 incomplete distance tree

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

These were downloaded using Netscape Navigator 6.1 on a WinNT 4 Workstation machine.  Does Windows corrupt the file on it's way through?  Am I missing something basic and stupid?

One thing I did notice - NT changes any "." in the text to "_".  I've tried leaving it as is and saving it with "." and get the same result.  I've spent 10 hours on this and it's doing my head in!  Can anyone help?

Matt
