That's because they are trying to do reverse lookups for the gateway
IP addresses.  Do "route -n" or put something into your /etc/hosts
file to make the lookups work.

Can you ping anything?  Use IP addresses, not hostnames.

Sounds something like a routing loopback with the ethernet getting
flooded with packets.  tcpdump is your friend.

Sounds like misconfiguration to me, but it's hard to say without
actually being there :-)
