$PATH is not searched when looking for libraries. Either put "/usr/local/lib"
into $LD_LIBRARY_PATH (a colon-delimited list of directories just like $PATH
is), or add it to "/etc/ld.so.conf" and then run "ldconfig" to pick up the
change.
