Hi Ajit,

For any RAID level above 1, hardware RAID is much faster.

You need at least 3 disks to implement RAID-5, while 5 disks is
recommended.  You lose data storage capacity equivalent to one of the
disks.

If you just want to span drives without building in redundancy, you
can use the built-in Linux RAID-0 (striping).
