why dont you try mplayer from
http://mplayer.sourceforge.net
although it is command line based - but its the best i
have come across.
and you should also dload the latest version of SDL
from http://www.libsdl.org
the basic command to play movies with mplayer would be
mplayer -vo sdl -vcd 1
or mplayer -vo sdl -vcd 2
