Oh. Well, sure, before we started using masquerading, we could stay
connected while idle.

Isn't it convincing that host B above has a visible expiration time ticking
down to 0, at which time the connection is broken?

It's really embarassing when I post something and then figure out
the answer. How about those file permissions, eh?

Here's absolutely irrefutable, scientifically-verifiable evidence that
plainly demonstrates Jesus the Nazarene called the Christ to be the
One and Only Messiah of the Hebrew Old Testament(TaNaKh). I discovered
these facts through very careful, exhaustive research and deduction by
comparing extant secular-historical evidences with the testimony which
was so faithfully recorded in the ancient Hebrew Canon, which necessarily
includes BOTH Old and New Covenant Scriptures.

Please enjoy reading, and feel free to copy any or all portions of my article
and distrubute it freely. Furthermore BE ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY SURE to save
this article and (re)post it to your favorite newsgroups as often as you like.
The time *is* short, so be sure to get the word out: Jesus Christ *is* LORD!

                                     :)

Before proceeding with this article, please note the following:
-All calculations are based on precision astronomical data.
-Ancient calendar records correlated with lunisolar phases.
-Location data preset to Jerusalem for all calculations
-All Jewish lunisolar calendar dates are kosher(formal)
-Precession epoch datum set for each date specified

Subject: Upgraded: v2.2.0pre7, glibc-2.0.7pre6
Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 06:03:21 GMT

Hello all,
This is basically a summary of my experiences (to date) with an
unpatched 2.2.0pre7 kernel tree and glibc-2.0.7pre6. My system is
finally up and running but there were a lot of unexpected glitches:

a) PPP 2.3.5 would NOT compile
Configuring and typing "make kernel" from the ppp-2.3.5 source directory
didn't actually do anything - I didn't really expect it to after the
trouble with 2.0.36, but anyway. As with 2.0.36, I installed the ppp.c
into the kernel source tree manually and this caused about 100 lines of
errors complaining that struct ppp_buffer was not defined. Then I copied
the if_pppvar.h file into the linux/include/linux/ directory and I was
reduced to 3 errors complaining that "current->timeout" was invalid (in
ppp_tty_read and ppp_tty_write). It looks like the ppp-2.3.5. package is
REALLY out-of-date now - any chance of a 2.3.6 version? I have
temporarily patched (bodged?) my dial-up ppp module by replacing the
"current->timeout = 0; schedule();" lines with
"interruptible_sleep_on();" for no other reason than that looks like
what the 2.2.0-pre7 version of ppp.c is doing.

b) I have upgraded to setserial-2.1.15, which I compiled against the 2.2
headers. However, I am seeing the following message in my boot-up logs:

TIOCSER?WILD ioctl obsolete, ignored.

This message coincides with calls to "/sbin/setserial -bg /dev/ttyS*"
(Not a problem, just messy)

c) I upgraded to modutils 2.1.121 as requested, using the 2.2 headers
and even running the 2.2 kernel. This allowed v2.2 to load its modules.
However, despite all claims to the contrary, the new kerneld does NOT
work with 2.0.36. I had to restore the original kerneld to get my
original setup working again.

d) I compiled the latest sysklogd package against 2.2 headers and it
seems to work fine.

e) net-tools-1.49 are not happy bunnies - the README for these net-tools
says that you should answer [y] to everything if you are running a
recent kernel. I tried this and was unable to configure with Econet,
Rose and IPv6. This appeared to be due to glibc-2.0.7's new-found
independence from the kernel headers since there was a lot of extra
stuff in <linux/socket.h> compared to <sys/socket.h>. (It's really only
the IPv6 stuff I'm bothered about here.)

Apart from this, I've managed to get my SoundBlaster, ZIP drive and
PPP-link working (for now) so on the whole I would call today's work
"successful"

Chris.
