Dialmon controlling new diald on old kernel

diald 0.16.5
dialmon 0.6

Are there any changes I need to make to my dialmon or diald configuration
to make dialmon work with diald 0.98.x?  I tried simply switching the
diald binaries, but dialmon and diald just refused to work together.
