Is serial support compiled as a module, perhaps for a modem on an
interrupt other than the standard 3 or 4? If so, you may need to run
"setserial" in your connect script to ensure that the module is
properly initialised before using it. Perhaps after some number
of uses, the module is unloaded by kerneld, and on reload, it defaults
to the kernel standard parameters, which will be wrong for any
serial port beyond the first two.
In any case, setserial is a good tool for diagnosing the kinds of
problems your are having. I work my way up through
setserial,
minicom,
ip-up,
diald
when I am troubleshooting this kind of stuff.
