I have just recently tried to get 'diald' to work under SuSE 5.2 and am
unable to establish and maintain a connection. The scripts that SuSE
established for 'ppp' work great. (It's how I'm connected now.)
I started diald with the following command (as you may be able to tell, I'm
new at this). Some of the command was gleaned from the
/etc/suseppp/scripts/ppp-up file.
diald debug 15 -daemon -f /etc/suseppp/diald/generic.diald \
-- file /etc/suseppp/generic.options
The /var/log/messages file contains the following (where I have deleted the
time stamp for brevity):

This last line is the result of my trying to kill diald by typing ^C. I
killed it from another console.
Prior to cutting the line down, I can see that there is a 'dialog' across
the line, but I kave no knowledge of what it may be. There are two
questions at this time:
1) Any diea as to why ppp works, but not diald? If you want to examine any
of the scripts involved, please let me know.
2. How can I monitor the line to see potentially why it's failing?
I know that it's probably in the 'manual' somewhere, but I've had enough
difficulty getting this far with diald much less getting further into the
support routines. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
