Hi,

Over the weekend I had a problem with the diald connection to the
internet being made every 3 minutes. It turned out that 2 users had
installed RealPlayer G2 on their PCs. Part of the new RP is a utility
called SmartStart. It was this that was making the connection to (I
assume) a RealPlayer server ever 2-3 minutes. Disabling the
SmartStart feature cured the problem.

I've not installed RPG2 on my PC but if/when I do I'll see if there's
a better way to stop it bringing the link up.

BTW, the connection SmartStart tries to make it to port 80 of
209.66.98.23. An nslookup of this address
gives host023.a-308.98.66.209.in-addr.arpa. I tried telnetting into
port of this address but I got a connection refused message.

Hope this helps someone with the same problem!

Regards,

Iain
