It is just a basic hook... Use it if you need it, if you don't just pass
it by. 

I have a little logging script in mine:

#!/bin/sh
#/etc/ppp/ip-up-diald
echo $1 $2 $3 $4 $5 $6> /var/adm/ip-up-diald

and 

#!/bin/sh
#/etc/ppp/ip-dn-diald
mv /var/adm/ip-up-diald /var/adm/ip-dn-diald

so I can test the status by looking for the existence of the log file, and
get the ip addresses easily.
