probably i'm doing something VERY dumb.

environment: redhat linux 5.2, 486/66, 16mb, 2gb disk, 16550A uarts, ip
address 10.0.0.1, two windoze boxes on the network. pppd works just fine
with the first version of the following options file. ip masquerading
installed and working.

i got a clean compile of diald (version 0.16.5). here are the config files.

/etc/ppp/options:
===============================
lock
38400
/dev/cua1
-detach
crtscts
modem
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -f -f /root/dial-best"
:
===============================

and a chopped down of /etc/ppp/options version i tried...
===============================
-detach
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /root/dial-best"
:
===============================

here's /etc/diald.conf
===============================
mode ppp
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /root/dial-best"
device /dev/ttyS1
speed 38400
modem
lock
crtscts
local 10.0.0.23
remote 10.0.0.24
dynamic
defaultroute
include /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter
===============================

standard.filter and diald.defs are unmodified from the distribution.

when i fire up diald, it puts (what look like) good messages in
/var/log/messages and then just sits here like a lump on a log. whether i
try to telnet to an outside machine from the linux box or run www from one
of the windoze boxes, nothing, zip, nada.

any thoughts/solutions (or cracks upside the head if i'm being REAL dumb)
would be appreciated.

thanks,
jack
