Hello, I am running RedHat 5.1, intel ...
I used to have a cable modem, and ran ip-masq to give all the computers in
my house Inet access. I recently moved (and lost cable modem), and so was
wanting to accomplish the same thing with ipmasq & diald ...
I've finally gotten diald to work ... but it has a nasty side-effect.
For whatever reason, my machine now, after running for a while, stops
allowing new connections to be made to it.
This often happens while in the middle of being connected through diald,
and didn't start until I had diald installed.
The machine itself can still connect out through the ppp connection. And
any machines behind it can still connect through the ipmasq.
But no machine can connect to my linux bow itself. If you telnet to it,
you 'connect', but never get the logon screen. Even if I telnet to it from
itself it doesn't work. Whatever windows you happened to have open are all
you have. You can't even rlogin or su, as they both lock up ...
Also because of this, once diald decides to disconnect, diald will never
connect again. It just never seems to see the request the second time.
Now if it 'hadn't locked yet' it will work fine. But once it locks, it
will never come back up.
Finally, when in this mode, and if I happened to have NO windows open on
the box, I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del the thing. But even then, I have to do it
TWICE. The first time, it 'claims' to be shutting down, but does nothing
after that. The second time it will actually try to shut down ...
AND, while actually shutting down, if I had tried to connect with diald
again since it locked, just a little bit before actually going down, I can
hear the modem begin to dial, and then it reboots.
Can anyone help me?
Eli
