I had the same problem for quite a while... I finally
got motivated and tracked my problem down by turning
on debug info for bind. It turns out that my problem
wasn't my linux box. It was my sun solaris box (2.6)
which was running nscd (nameserver cache daemon). This
sucker was configured to keep my last 20 name requests
"hot" which meant making queries every few minutes!
My solution was to just turn off the cache daemon, but
you could try telling it to just not keep any entries
"hot". If this isn't your exact problem, I would guess
that you would find it enlightening to turn on debugging
for bind so you can see who is making the requests. Just
trying to block bringing up the line for bind might be a
bit harder.
