OK. Assuming that your netscape start page only references a local page,
pressing the home button should not cause diald to bring up the link.
This leads to the conclusion that (at least some) machine names within
your network cannot be resolved without bringing up the link.
Problem 1. One of your previous posts included this line:
>Aug 9 20:02:09 redbox named[302]: No root nameservers for class IN
Assuming your domain name is really "myname.home", this may well be the
problem. I don't believe you can create arbitrary top level domain
names without also telling your named that is is the top level root
server for that domain. I would change that domain name to something
more standard.
Also, when you use nslookup and ping to solve these problems, do use the
fully qualified domain names of the machines and do try it from
different machines. If your /etc/hosts file contains machine names in
addition to the fully qualified names, the former will be selected and
the latter will not be used.
If you continue to have these problems, please post your named
configurations here, though I fear we are now straying off topic...
I have a 5 node network with a mix of NT and linux machines and have
not had any problems since I set it up almost two years ago so I know it
can be done.
