In my limited experience, which has only been the last week, or so, if you are
running a 2.0.x kernel, then you are better sticking to 0.16.5 as I found after

compiling 0.99-1, and kernel 2.0.36 and ppp 2.3.8 that diald did not send
through buffered packets. Once the line was up all was well though.

Yes, I did the echo "#undef  AF_NETLINK" >> diald.h, but this only allowed me
to compile.
