Hi, diald has no problem at all, its pppd which has changed.
There are some changes from version 2.3.7 to version 2.3.10, mainly at
the authentication level, so you must indicate to pppd how to coop with
it.
You can go two ways here.
If you are connecting to a machine with a constant name you just have
to add, to your /etc/ppp/pap-secrets a line like 'remote local
password', with remote replaced with the remote machine name, local
replaced with the local machine name and password replaced with the
needed password. You can use this method for a small number of machine
to which you'll connect to.
If you don't know either the remote machine name or the needed password
you have several options. You can just add to your /etc/ppp/pap-secrets
a line '"" * ""' which allows any connection to be established, or you
can add the line 'allow-ip *' in /etc/ppp/options to the same efect,
although more secure, or you can add the line 'noauth' in
/etc/ppp/options to disable completely authentication (beware that if
you use PAP or CHAP you can't use this one).
Related to the modprobe error loading char-major-108 I'll be back on it
as soon as I find out which module it is.
Hope this helps.
