I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish.  Could you explain what you
are trying to do please?

Since you are talking about a laptop and a network please include
information about whether you wish to connect the laptop to the network
through a telephone line or through a NIC or both.  Please explain also
whether the network itself would use diald to access the Internet.
