Not a solution but it might make you feel less lonely to hear that I
seem to have a very similar problem! RH6.0, PII-400 diald 0.99.1,
ppp-2.3.7. All of my diagnostics resemble yours, including bringing
up pppd manually i.e. without diald. Also when I ping
the local ppp0 interface I get:
ping: sendto: No buffer space available
and in /var/log/messages:
kernel: neighbour table overflow
I'd be interested to hear if you get the same.
In /var/log/messages I also see
SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation not supported
although I think this is a 'red herring' as I also see that on another
RH6.0 machine on which diald works fine. My dialup connections work
fine with the same machine under Windoze fwiw.
Very confused :(
