Hi!
I have some problem here. I am trying to set up diald here on a Debian
2.0.36 Slink. The problem is that when the clients try to connect, then it
takes much too long to set up the ppp link and until then the client
either timeouts (Netscape) or just hangs (ssh, telnet, ftp). What can I do
about it. I would like to achieve that if I issue ssh -l user domain.com
then the connection gets established without any intervention by the user
(i.e. stopping it and starting it again when the ppp link is up). I don't
feel like explaining this to the office staff, so I have to find something
out.
I read in the FAQ that the timeout can be set longer by tripling the
nameserver line in /etc/resolv.conf. This one didn't help. Or one can also
increase some value in the kernel source and recompile. I thought I will
ask it before I start compiling on this 486. Would this help. What could
be the remedy for the hang up problem.
Thanks
Jan Csernoch
PS: By the way diald was the most demanding configuration ever in my Linux
career. Even to cause it to get connected to the ISP and keep the line
open. Am I alone?
