Hi,

I have had a working configuration working on RedHat 5.2. I now am
trying to install diald on another machine running RedHat 6.1.

I have managed to use pppd on the new machine with success but I am
having problems with diald.

Using diald 0.99.1 I have modprobe entry errors in my log file:

modprobe: can't locate module tap0
modprobe: can't locate module tap1
etc

and

modprobe: can't locate module char-major-108

I have placed alias char-major-108 ppp_generic into /etc/conf.modules

but the main problem appears to be:

The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I couldn't find
any secret (password) which would let it use an IP address.

I don't understand this message because it seems to indicate to me that
I'm requiring my ISP to give me a password; what configuration is making
ppp think it should require this? Much the same configuration files
didn't have this outcome on my RH5.2 system.

I have put my password in pap-secrets and I have also put a blank user
and password line to hopefully allow my ISP access anyway but to no
avail.

I presume the modprobe problem is somesort of kernel compilation
problem, can anyone tell me what configuration I should be looking for
if I recompile the kernel?

Has anyone any ideas on the authentication problem?

kernel-2.2.12
ppp-2.3.10
