I'm sure this same question has been repeted many
times, but I'm new to
Linux and diald - and I can't get to the archives at ftp://rex.isdn.net/pub/diald (doesn't seem to like anonymous logins) I currently have one question that I am hoping someone can help me with. (to begin with) First the question - I was getting the following message in on of the log files whenever diald attempted to attach to the host: Jan 10 22:38:42 huey pppd[406]: The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I Jan 10 22:38:42 huey pppd[406]: couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so. I was able to get around this by adding "noauth" to the pppd-options line of the diald config file I use when starting up diald. Is this an appropriate work around? Am I compromising security somehow? I haven't needed to setup a secrets file for straight pppd before. I appreciate the help. - Michael Lynch |
