Something's amiss with my chatscript, I fear, but I can't tell what,
other than that I'm not getting logged in. Here're some snips from the
logs, but I don't see why the link is dying on the remote end:

**************SNIP*********************

Does anyone see why I shouldn't be getting logged in? My username and
password are correct, though the "$USER_NAME" in the log in chat
sequence was "\q$USER_NAME", and the "$PASSWORD" was "$PASSWORD". I
changed them to "$USER_NAME" and "\qPASSWORD" respectively. The
timeouts are 15 and 15 respectively. I let AUTHENTIFY=1 since I don't
use PAP or CHAP. I set PROTOCOL_START="ppp" and left START_ACK=""

In other words:

*****************SNIP*******************
# We're connected try to log in.
message "Logging in"
chat $DEBUG \
       TIMEOUT 15 \
       "$USER_CHAT_SEQ" "$USER_NAME" \
       TIMEOUT 15 \
       "$PASSWD_CHAT_SEQ" "\q$PASSWORD"
if [ $? != 0 ]; then
    message "Failed to log in"
    exit 1
fi
****************SNIP********************

I don't see a "Failed to log in" in /var/log/messages. I would have
thought my login worked, but my connection times out and dies in the
middle of packet traffic. My ISP says I'm not logging in successfully
with this script. Given this info, can anyone tell me why I can't get
connected? (BTW, everything works fine calling pppd manually with
/usr/bin/pon or poff.)

TIA!
