The on board modem could be a "Soft" modem - They require Software to
make them work - Not Yet supported on Linux, but some people are
trying to fix the problem.
Check the Chipset - if it is a Lucient - then you will not succeed,
even some of the later Rockwell Chipsets are softmodems.
