There seems to be alot of questions about this one. I've got my system
working but I don't really understand the ins and outs of it.

If your server is using PAP then you need to authenticate. "-- call
<username>" where username is a user in your pap-secrets file. If your
server isn't using PAP then put "noauth" in your /etc/diald.conf file.

For a better understanding try reading the man pages for pppd notiving
references for "peers" and pap-secrets.

If you get a better understanding explain it to me. I have a lot of trouble
because I dial two hosts one that uses PAP and one that doesn't and I keep
having to change the way diald is started.

Subject: Error while connecting

I get the following errors when diald is spawning pppd after i dial my ISP:

diald[353]: Running pppd (pid = 381).
Running pppd: /usr/sbin/pppd -defaultroute -detach modem crtscts mtu 1500
mru 1500 noipdefault
The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I
couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so.
start sl0: SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation not supported
start sl0: SIOCADDRT: File exists
start sl0: SIOCDELRT: No such process
new state DISCONNECT action 0x8050dd8 timeout 60
new state CLOSE action 0x8050e5c timeout -1
Disconnected. Call duration 0 seconds.

So pppd dies.Any ideas?

Thanks
