I'm still trying to get switched over to
Redhat 5.2 from an ancient Slackware.
(The Redhat Linux version is 2.0.36. I'm
still getting along with 2.0.26 while this
won't work.)
When I start diald, it just shuts down
again. I think the relevant detail is
Feb 12 15:35:53 localhost modprobe: can't locate module net-pf-17
from /var/log/messages in the log excerpts far below.
I searched the web for "net-pf" and found advice to
make sure I've "configured CONFIG-PACKET as a module".
I can't find anything resembling that in the "make
config" process or in the config file it produces.
No references to packets in any of the configuration
details (README files and .h files and ...). And I
didn't find anything else that seemed even remotely
relevant in my web searches.
I do have a command file that merrily starts up
ppp and connects me to the net.
I did discover that the version of diald I'm
running with 2.0.26 doesn't work with 2.0.36.
The 0.16.5a in the logs below will suggest to
you how long I've been trying to work my way
through this.
