Hi,

I'm using a stock redhat 6.1 installation. My problem with diald occurs in that diald starts up and accepts the prompt to bring up the link automatically. However, if the sl0 interface is up, pppd fails with the following error.

==> /var/log/diald.log <==
Sun Apr  2 19:45:42 2000 PKT: Calling site 192.168.0.2.

==> /var/log/messages <==

Apr  2 19:45:43 baggins pppd[1088]: The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I
Apr  2 19:45:43 baggins pppd[1088]: couldn't find any secret (password) which would let it use an IP address.
Apr  2 19:45:43 baggins diald[970]: start sl0: SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation not supported
Apr  2 19:45:43 baggins diald[970]: start sl0: SIOCADDRT: File exists
Apr  2 19:45:43 baggins diald[970]: start sl0: SIOCADDRT: File exists
Apr  2 19:45:43 baggins diald[970]: start sl0: SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation not supported

With diald shutoff and the sl0 interface removed, ifup ppp2 works just fine, no problems.
My ifup-ppp, ifcfg-ppp, and chat-ppp are stock created from netconf (RH 6.1).
Btw, are the sl0 SIOC*** errors any indication?

Here is what my /etc/diald.conf file has:
debug
mode ppp
device /dev/ttyS2
accounting-log /var/log/diald.log
pppd-options name manzur
fifo /etc/diald/diald.ctl
connect /usr/sbin/chat -v -f /network-scripts/chat-ppp2
speed 115200
lock
modem
crtscts
local 192.168.0.1
remote 192.168.0.2
netmask 255.255.255.252
mtu 576
mru 576
window 2048
redial-backoff-start 4
redial-backoff-limit 300
dial-fail-limit 15
dynamic
defaultroute
include /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter
+ the standard tcp/udp linksets

I've tried all sorts of combinations, and I've narrowed it down to pppd not wanting to work if the sl0 interface is up, as soon as you bring it down pppd negotiates via pap just fine. Just wanted to know if anybody else has faced a similar situation, or can point out what idiotic mistake I'm making. If you require any information, please do not hesitate to contact me.Thanks for the support. Take care.
