New to linux/ diald problems

I am new to Linux.  I have mandrake 6.5 and have several services set up on
it.  DNS, SMB, Squid.  I am trying to get the auto dialer to work but I am
having difficulty.  The other services are well documented, but diald docs
are lacking.  Anyone have any advice/ links to docs to get a novice started?
I tried compiling but had no success.  Any help would be appreciated.
