Hi, Great guys
I have several problems about ppp and diald.

1. I have a internal modem 33.6k attached at /dev/ttyS0.
ppp0 is correctly setup by linuxconf to my ISP and it can get my box connected
by command

#ifup ppp0.

but it always failed first time, (from the noise I guess the line drops
while authentication) and it wil redial and get me on. I tried it on RED HAT 6
and TurboLinux 4 both behave same. Can you tell me what's wrong or some hints?

2. I have a standalone linux box without NIC only a modem as above. I installed
the diald can config the diald.conf and my connect scripts to my ISP. However,
every time I start diald it will leave following message into /var/log/messages
...

ifconfig can show me the linking interface sl0
What are module tap1, tap2...tap15? What is SIOCSIFMETRIC? How important are
they? How can I satisfy them?
and I can fire up the diald by something like:
#lynx www.mydomain.com
but the ppp will last very long (10 minutes even) without any outgoing ip
requirements. How can I set the ppp to cut the line when no tranfic for 10
seconds?

thanks!
Ji Tao
