Thanks for the help with the tap message. I've added Ethertap to my 
kernel and now I no longer get the 16 entries regarding "tap0-15" in my 
log. However I do still get this message

"Start tap0: SIOCSIFMETRIC: Operation not supported".

Diald works fine except that it does not replace the default route, it 
adds a second default route. Is there a way to get Diald to replace the 
default route? What does the above message mean?
