I guess it uses the CVBS-Signal for sync. Check cable 1->20.
Or maybe you have choosen the wrong AV-channel or Scart-Input on your TV?
With my TV I only get sync, if i select AV1. With AV2 I get the same result as 
you ("running pictueres")
