There is a semi-automatic "scanning" tool which produces a channels.conf: http://www.linuxstb.org/dvbtune/index.shtml Don't expect to much, but I was able to create a complete channels.conf for my DVB-C/T setup. The most important options are -f (frequency) -i (dump SI as XML) and -x (Attempt to auto-find other transponders (experimental)).
