There is (at least) one plugin for xine "on the way" that will support dvb live and time-shifted TV watching. Look at the xine-devel mailing list. I sucessfully compiled the plugin from Mauro Borghi. It works well in xine-0.9.8 with my dvb-s card. Don't know, if there is a fundamental difference between -t and -s cards from the applications point of view.
