It's rather unlikely that you get X running with only 4 megs of ram.
If you have a 10Mbit/s connection to the server, then you might use
swap-space over nfs. Then X even "runns" on a 386sx16 with 2 MB RAM.
But with 2MB, it is *realy* slow. But a 486 (VLB-GFX card) with 8MB RAM
did it quite well (even without swap over nfs):
Staroffice, netscape and up to 20 xterms and 2 emacs is no problem.
So a 386 with 4Meg and swap over nfs might do it with X,
but i suggest having a look at VNC (Virtual Network Computing)
from Olivetti Research (it's GPLed). Using Freedos with it, even 1 Meg of
ram *should* be quite fine (i tried it with linux and 2MB/nfs-swap:
it was not much faster than X, because of swapping ... maybe it's ok
with VNC?)

Depends on your board ...

There are several "X-Terminal"-Distributions out there, but i don't
remember the URLs. But you will do some handcrafts anyway ... :-)
