Its a loss leader. I think thats what it is called. They want
to make the money on the ISP service. The units are usally
$199 or $299 if forget.
Most people are using 2.5" drives and mounting them inside.
must use the thinner drives. Install Linux on the drive
via another machine w/networking via ether to parallel or
USB to ethernet. After that you can maintain and continue
to configure over net. No floppy on the unit. It does have a 16Mb Sandisk chip.
I have a link on doing a minimal install
of NetBSD via the serial port to the flash. No opening needed. :) So far I
have heard of Linux, NetBSD, BeOS and Win9x
installed on these things.
