Something that has a bunch of ethernet ports and a processor
is your run-of-the-mill ethernet switch.  I suppose that
old 10 Mbit switches are reaching boot-anchor status.  Maybe
there is a bunch of those you could get your hands on that
you could re-flash with your embedded app?  I think that
the older Cisco Catalyst switches were running embedded
Pentiums (or 486's) running their IOS out of flash.  Taking it
one step further, if you needed a steady supply of such
things, maybe you could contact the original supplier of
said boards/boxes and strike a deal.

A Quad Ethernet board eh?  You could do the Beowulf thing with 
the right motherboard.  Wearable supercomputing! Too bad nobody
has systems with more than 24 bit addressing.  We definitely need more than
16 MB of address space for each processor.
