I didn't move to 4.1 but I went to 4.0.2 with LEM and I just copied
the X11 tree over to my target.  You might make sure that all the xkb
stuff got updated as well.  They are located in /var/state and
/etc/X11/

After it ran I started hacking the tree until I got it down to only
what I needed.
