This is unfortunate because the 5.15 kernel, which is not affected by the bug, is near to EOL (October, if I remember correctly). I am not an expert, but I assume it is safer not to interrupt the script (because the gc goes on on its own anyway) or shut down the pc while the gc is running, but to do in reverse what the script does. TBH I don't remember if doing this really interrupts the gc or in any case once it enters the loop there is nothing to do.
