There is a solution that _could_ help doing that: scratchbox
(http://www.scratchbox.org)provides a way of even cross-compiling a full
debian system from scratch, so there _is_ a way to create a minimal debian
system for an architecture on a machine of another architecture. No idea how
long it take to go that way, in terms of getting there the first time, and
then rebuilding an nfsroot whenever needed.
