cannot stat

I have setup Fai and the messages are OK.
When I try to install on a laptop it does not find the Debian sources at
ftp.debian.org. All it says is cannot stat..........etc.
The install server has no problem with the sources. Is there any clues
as to what may be the problem? The /tmp/fai error.log is full of cannot
stats for all the required packages. Everything else is working fine.
