Are you sure that your NIC has been detected by linux? I've got some of these
too and it works without any problems using recent kernels; Do you see anything
like:

Sending DHCP requests .eth0: network connection up using port A
    speed:           100
    autonegotiation: yes
    duplex mode:     full
    flowctrl:        symmetric
    irq moderation:  disabled
    scatter-gather:  enabled
, OK

(speed should be 1000...)

This has been taken from one of my fai-install logs, so it does work...
