i've discussed this with beekhof on irc.
i will try to clarify this here:

i am talking about elevated (or even reduced) limits which are enforced
by the os, for example no. of open files/locks/pipes, scheduling
priority, cpu time, maybe core file size, etc. (see man ulimit, man
bash or similar).

this could aid in preventing a resource from running crazy, granting
additional rights for specific resource (e.g. specify a different
nofile limit for apache/postfix/squid/mysql) or help with debugging
certain resources (e.g. changes to core file size).

as changes to (u)limit (i do not know how limits work on other unix
flavored os or, actually, even other shells than bash) might be
needed for several RAs, i think that this should be a meta attribute.

the result should be something like:
* lrmd is told to e.g. start a resource
* lrmd sets the correct (u)limits
* lrmd calls the RA

now, there could be different ways of implementing that. for example,
there could be a minimum or maximum limit that are considered "ok".
e.g. "we want nofile for apache to be 2048 at *least*"

moreover - at least in bash - there are soft and hard limits, that
can be modified.

i'll see if i find time to take a look at the sources. beekhof already
gave me a hint to look at the timeout meta-attribute. this will not
happen before february thou.

of course, i welcome any input on this topic! :)

cheers,
raoul
