These have an onboard DSP which can be used to offload
the modem processing. If you're willing to let the host
CPU do the processing, then every Soundblaster or
WSS compatible soundcard should do.

Well, the original (i.e. Creative) ISA soundblasters are
not so good since they either are very limited
on the sampling rates they support or their audio
signal path leaves much to be desired.
